Saturday's hair appointment
« on: December 05, 2010, 02:18:01 PM »
I'd been dreading it because 1) it was long overdue (hadn't been to Robert since May) and 2) I recently colored my own hair. With henna!

As he was cutting it, I always watch him--just in case he goes into haircutter zen state and starts snipping layers into my hair. I noticed he was frowning in concentration, and I though, "Ruh-roh. Here it comes."

But what came out of his mouth surprised me. "What did you use in your hair, henna? It looks really good. I can't believe how shiny it is. Even the grey bits that took up the red look like really nice highlights."

:woohoo:

So he talked himself right out of the job coloring your hair, did he?

Great, Zuzu! Glad the henna is stylist-approved for you. I can't believe you haven't had a cut in over six months. Wow! I just went for my 6-week trim since I'll be away when it's really 6 weeks. Of course, since my hair is short and curly, if I wait more than two months I'll look like a ball of fluff.
  • Complexion: fair neutral
  • Eyes: boring brown
  • Hair: dark brown (over the grey), coarse, naturally curly but treated with keratin

He's used to my pushing back. He knows I hate what permanent dye does to the condition of my hair, and he's usually very respectful of that. Plus, he's always wanted to dye my hair red.

I didn't say that.   I hadn't been to him since May. I got my hair trimmed when I had my colors done back in mid August, so it's been 3 months--about as long as I can comfortably go. I prefer to go every 10 weeks.

My hair is now so short I can't pull it into a ponytail! The back is cut right to the nape, and the sides follow my jawline, ending right where the point of my chin ends.

Oh, you little devil, you cheated on Robert!

All's well that ends well. When my hair was straightened from the Brazilian Blowout, I had a similar cut. Now it's more of short shag.

I bet it looks great. I had a short shag in 1993, and I really liked it, but it took forever to grow those pieces back into a bob!

When I get to goal weight and my face thins out more (assuming I have thin hair still), I am getting a pixie. Or at least a short choppy cut like LemonMyrtle.

I reallly need to try Henna. I keep saying it and really not doing anything about it. But, your story has peeked my interest.  I'll start looking at the brands and jut dive into it without thinking of the process  :D

You should probably do a little research first. I'll help. :)

For example, never buy the pre-boxed stuff (e.g., Light Mountain Natural), which contains metals and can turn hair ends green. What you want is a body-art quality, finely sifted henna.

There is also a bit of an art to curing the paste and different results, depending on how long you leave it in your hair.

SusieQ, if you start a henna thread, I will happily post my experience (as well as my mistakes so you don't have to live through them), and I can post links to the best resources on the web.

Zuzu, your haircut sounds terrific. I love that shape. And congrats on the successful use of henna!

That's because my hair is still 98% light brown. When I am more grey, it's gonna be a challenge!
