For those of us that still color our greys, Ardell also makes an additive called Gray Magic that help with gray coverage. A friend just told me about it today.

And the verdict is... meh. I can't see that it did anything to make the color less yellow/gold. I'm just going to have to re-do the toner and use more ash blonde, and just a touch of neutral blonde so it doesn't turn blue. The "natural" blonde shade really pulls warm on me (I had originally mixed a toner of half neutral/half ash)and it washed me out. Dang.

Perhaps if I start with an ashier color the Ardell will help maintain it, but it's not going to correct a color that was wrong in the first place.

Bummer. That's disappointing.

For those of us that still color our greys, Ardell also makes an additive called Gray Magic that help with gray coverage.

Does it get mixed in with the dye or is it a separate treatment?

My friend says she adds 6-8 drops of the Gray Magic to the bottle of hair color. Her hair is snow white underneath the mahogany brown she uses.

And, months later, the winner is:

MATRIX SO SILVER!

Thanks, Castell.

It's easy-peasy to use (just shampoo and rinse) and it does lift the colour by bringing out the silver highlights just a little more. I'm using it once or twice a week.

This was one of the first ones I ever used and I did repurchase it a couple of times.  Then I changed salons and started wandering.  Now that I have the internet, maybe I should go back to Matrix!  I am glad you found your winner, LemonMyrtle.

Does Matrix Go Silver have a conditioner, or is it shampooo only?  I use condish only to wash my hair.

Thanks, Listy. I've found Matrix a reliable brand over the years so I shouldn't have been surprised that So Silver worked for me.

Marci, I don't know, sorry. I do a conditioner only wash every other day with just Paula's Choice conditioner. I must say the shampoo leaves my hair very soft, and I don't use conditioner when I shampoo. The reviews I read led me to expect it to be drying, but so far that hasn't been so. Perhaps a toner followed by a conditioner would be better for you. I know practically nothing about hair products though, so it's probably best to ignore me!

I agree with LemonMyrtle.  The hair products for silver hair are not recommended for use every day.  They would either be too drying or deposit too much purple color.

I only use mine once a week.  Maybe you could make that the exception in your usual routine?  I confess I have not come across anyone in your particular situation using a purple conditioner!

Clairol is the one I'm finishing up right now.  It doesn't seem to dry my hair out as much as some others have done.

Clariol Shimmer Lights Shampoo works very well on grey hair. This shampoo softens coarse grey hair and the violet base brightens grey hair

I couldn't get this in Australia and didn't have much luck online. But I will make another effort to find it.
