Meryl Streep Vogue Cover
« on: January 02, 2012, 10:24:48 AM »
Streep, 62, is the January cover girl for Vogue Magazine.  She jokes in the article that she is the oldest person ever to appear on the cover.  I don't know if that is true or not, but she looks wonderful.  Of course, her movie about Margaret Thatcher, The Iron Lady, is opening this month as well.

Of course, she was photographed by Annie Leibovitz.  Not too shabby, my dear.

Meryl Streep seems to be truly ageless. Except for her very young photos, I often have difficulty discerning what decade her age is in pictures. I think that's part of her beauty and her incredible ability to portray so many amazing characters - besides her incredible talent, of course.

In this movie she plays Thatcher from age 49-85, when the director had originally thought she would need at least two actresses to play that range, plus a third for the younger Margaret.  It is a testament to her talent that they chose an American actress to play a British icon.

I think Streep has gorgeous skin - she never looks as if she is wearing much makeup.  She has always seemed like a chameleon to me in her roles - different nationalities and accents, different ages and social classes - she is a national treasure!

I love her in just about any movie she has ever done.  Looking forward to seeing The Iron Lady.  She looks wonderful!  I haven't seen Vogue yet in person, but I can't remember if it's the cover shot or another in the magazine -- really see the resemblance between her and her daughter Mamie Gummer (whom I miss seeing since the series Off the Map was cancelled).

So you don't mind that an American is playing the lead?

Absolutely not! I can't imagine anyone better suited to play this role. Although Helen Mirren would be a worthy candidate. I really admire Meryl Streep, she is a very intelligent and talented actress.

I think Meryl Streep is gorgeous.  And interesting looking to boot.
Age is a state of mind.

"Interesting" is the perfect word, Sue!  That's why she can play so many types of roles.  She can be beautiful, elegant, older, younger, happy, careworn, any nationality - what an actress she is!
