@anne - if you go to the Naturally Curly website, you will find that curly hair comes in all textures. That stereotype of coarse, wiry, curly hair is only one type. The reality includes waves, loose curls, tighter curls, kinky curls and all combinations of the above, as well as curls ranging from baby-fine to kinky-coarse wiry.  People don't always know this either. With my own hair, I have mixed textures and types of curls on my head, ranging from finer hairs to medium in texture, but I have a LOT of it. Plus the curls themselves vary, from the underneath layers being quite curly, to just slightly wavy top layer which sometimes hides all the beautiful curls underneath. But I AM fortunate to have a wonderful hair cutter who knows how to deal with curly hair here in San Francisco. There are others though. But still, good curly hair cutters are in the distinct minority, and many of us curlies have had bad haircuts until we found one. I feel for you with never having had a good hair cut for your type of hair. Do you have a pic so we can see?

I had no idea what curly girls go through until my DS married one.  I always thought - still do - that people with natural curls have the most beautiful hair ever made, but I do understand now how important the right cut is.

My hair is so very straight that I feel every tiny strand has to be just right or it will be completely obvious to everyone.  We each have our individual struggles, I guess, and hair is a big one!

They do if the cut is right for their particular curl pattern. Just get the wrong haircut, and using the wrong products for their hair, and it looks awful - no in between.

I have been going to the same stylist for 30 years. I was one of her first clients. I go to a little neighborhood place. I've been going there since I was single. My friends wouldn't set foot in the place. They would turn their noses up. I love her! We have become friends. She cuts my whole family's hair. She does exactly what I ask her to do. She knows my hair and what I like. .......and get this.......she only charges me $13 for a cut!!!!!!!!!

Cathy, you are SO fortunate! Your hair looks adorable, so it's obvious your hair stylist knows what she's doing. You found a winner! Good for you for sticking with your friend.

Wow youre lucky. The longest I ve been with someone is maybe 10 years--he also did massages. I miss that  :-\ Last time I just went to a chain to get trimmed for 15 bucks (then went home to blowdry myself). Most people move on if I go to even a moderately expensive place.
