I am a bad girl...
« on: February 06, 2012, 04:09:17 PM »
... You probably have noticed that I have gone all frugal and thrifty with make-up and skin care lately. It was my intention to stay away from make-up counters at least until April. Today I had to go shopping after work  and I just couldn't resist having a look at the Bobbi Brown counter and one thing led to another and I bought the Nude Palette (Eyeshadow). It is not cheap but I reckon it is the only taupe/brown/highlighter eyshadow palette that I will ever need.

Okay - let's see a show of hands.  How many think milla is a bad girl?  Right...that's what I thought.  Zero votes for bad girl.

Is it the one with six shadows and a brush?  Ultra nude?

Yes it is the limited edition. The shades are great and the brush is very good, unlike most brushes that you get with palettes.I could have bought a few other things but £39 is quite a lot. I do not expect to buy any eyeshadow for quite a while. I had been thinking of getting one of the Dior palettes, but this one has got all the shades that suit me.The only thing is, I don't find them very long lasting. I put it on this morning and it has virtually disappeared. I didn't use a primer though, only Boots BB cream as a base. The powder is so soft and it just blends so well. But the jury is still out for lasting power...

Milla, you ARE a bad girl. I had gotten over the pallette, telling myself the colours are far too dark for me and that I already have Stone, but now I am drooling again.

About the staying power: do you really pack your lids with Ivory or Bone first? BB says you should use Ivory or such as your "base" or primer. I find it makes a huge difference! I guess that is why Ivory is almost always there in a pallette.

If I don´t do the "BB priming", the eye shadows just "melt" on each other, looking very lovely at first but at the end of the workday, there will be almost nothing left. Sometimes I WANT the soft look and leave out Ivory on purpose!

About the pallette...how would you describe the colours, and which one will you use as highlighter? Please tell me it is more suitable for someone with darker skin and hair, and not really for anyone pale, blond and low-contrast. Please.
  • Complexion: NC 15 winter, NC 20 summer. Still oily.
  • Eyes: Blue
  • Hair: Very fine + wavy / curly. Would naturally be light or medium blonde - I think! Who knows?

When I said highlighter I wasn't actually thinking of something for the brow bone ( I'd probably go for something lighter), but there is a slightly metalic shade, the Praline shimmer , which is very nice to dab and blend in the middle of your eye lid. I am not sure if all of the shades will work on someone who is fair skinned and low contrast; I think that most of them will, but I would advise caution. You could go to a department store and ask for a demonstration and then make up your mind.
I bought this mainly because I watched a video with Lisa Eldridge showing how to 'lift' your eyes by creating a crease with neutral colours.I must say that these shades work for me, and the difference when I have just one eye done and the other un-made up is quite dramatic.  The shades blend like a dream and I am not that fantastic at blending. The only problem is,  they don't seem to last very long.Any advice  on how to make your eyeshadow stay on all day?

You absolutely need an eyeshadow primer. There are so many good ones. I don't know what you have available but some I've used that I recommend: Lumene, Too Faced (my favorite), cream bases from Clinique and Trish McEvoy, MAC paints (Painterly or Soft Ochre). One of those will be an investment that will make your palette worth what you spent.

Hollow laugh.

Want to guess if Bobbi Brown is sold in Finland?

Right. It´s not.

So, let´s just agree it is the most unsuitable pallette for me. Limited edition...nudes...must contain drool...

I prefer UDPP (Urban Decay Primer Potion) as an eyelid primer over drugstore and over Chanel or other high end.  I've tested many, too!  I've been buying it for years.
