We will be flying Dallas-JFK-Barcelona next month, so I am listening in on here for sure.  So far, from my own experience, I can only add that I am going to actually keep out a "polar fleece" jacket -- I am always cold at some point on the flight and/or in the airport and when I'm not, I can use it as a cover or makeshift pillow on the plane.  Also, taking a wrap/shawl for plane comfort.  And 4-6 magazines to get me through plane/airport boredom.  I used to take a book, but barely cracked it open -- I tend to have shorter attention span on vacation.  lol

 Wow. I always melt in the airplane and in the airport, especially when I am dragging my luggage somewhere. I have several tiny electric fans and always try to take one with me on holiday. It has been a lifesaver more than once! Of course, air conditioning doesn´t seem to be common in Europe. I LOVE the way everyplace has a/c in the USA!!

I truly seem to have just two settings on myself: hot and hotter. They should somehow conserve and recycle the energy I produce! Maybe to work a lovely a/c fan...Mmmm.....

If (when) I will ever get a hot flash, expect earth around me to melt and turn into glass.

I am still interested in the mask but cannot work out how it works or where it is placed on one´s face.  ???
  • Complexion: NC 15 winter, NC 20 summer. Still oily.
  • Eyes: Blue
  • Hair: *Very* fine + wavy / curly. I am growing out my natural hair color with the help of some highlights.

I truly laughed out loud when I read about the earth turning to glass!

As for the mask, from the description:

"The mask holds a simple mesh filter in place under your nose. The filter extracts moisture from the exhaled air and reuses it to humidify inhaled air. "

I can't figure it out from the picture either but it seems that perhaps it covers the nose and maybe the mouth? Maybe the picture isn't very good? Hopefully ddgattina will see this and respond. :)

I just watched Lisa E's video about what she does during a long plane trip. I think for those travelling and will be in a plane for a while, it's worth a view.

I think this is the link:

If I were as beautiful as Lisa E. I'd feel just as comfortable as she does with that routine while flying. While I don't anticipate any long-haul flights I think her flight routine would be excellent at home on a day when I've got time to read and pamper myself. Thanks for sharing. :)

That's what I was thinking, too. I mean, if I had special day the following day, I would sleep with the Sisley mask. But, I really don't want to know how much it is because she keeps saying that it was expensive.

Sorry for the delay, I've been away for a while (my mother broke her hip!).  "Mask" is a bit of a misnomer...the honeycomb piece actually goes under your nostrils (and above your mouth) and connects with two ear loops.  Definitely do not try to drink anything with the mask on...it will wick the liquid and ruin the mask...I learned the hard way, haha)  So when you exhale the moisture you exhale remains trapped in the honeycomb, and it humidifies/hydrates the very dry air you inhale on a plane.  It's basically recirculating the moisture you exhale to keep you from drying out.  Looks so strange, works so well...  But compared to losing days or a week of holiday due to a cold or flu?

So sorry to hear about your mother, dggattina. I hope she is mending well.

Thanks for clearing up our questions about how the mask fits. Now it makes better sense though I still think the pictures are out of sync with what you describe.

Mine would be going first class. I would hate to be in coach on a long flight. 5 hours is my limit, and even then by the 3rd hour, I am antsy.

Oh yes and a Kindle or good book.

Back this morning from our Mediterranean cruise.  Barcelona was our port of departure and return.  I have not been to Europe since my honeymooon, so I forgot how uncomfortable that trans-Atlantic flight can be.  It was about 6-7 hours going and 8-9 hours flight time on the return (although I overheard one flight attendant on our flight getting off the plane saying that it was a 10-hour flight, so she and I must do math differently     )

Thanks to airline miles, we were able to go business class for US-BCN-US legs of the trip.  Otherwise, we surely did not have the $3K+ per ticket to swing that luxury.   But yes, I would say that it's a hugely nice "essential" if it can happen one way or another for anyone.

I know that for health reasons, it is not optimal to drink alcohol or soda on the flight, but the one glass of wine I had with dinner helped me fall right to sleep on the flight over.  I also had sleeping pills and melatonin with me (would have taken one or the other if needed, but it was not).

My iPhone music helped me relax on the flight back.  That and reading magazines made me drowsy.

Facial wipes helped me feel more alert and clean up a bit before we landed, but then I needed Aquaphor for my hands and a bit on my face because my skin was visibly dry and flaking.  My hands almost hurt from being so dry.

Sunscreen!  And yes, I did have a very nice time.  I think I will tell about it in a new topic. :)
