Ordered a jewelry armoire
« on: February 20, 2011, 12:18:52 AM »
and have scared myself to death.  You know, Need vs Want.  I convinced myself I needed it.  I have massive entanglements of necklaces.  There's not enough storage in my room for underwear and socks (which keep losing their mates).  So I've gone and done it.

I scoured the internet for weeks and narrowed it down.  I want Country French and was hoping for painted.  Not much.  Thousands of jewelry armoires but not many authentic-looking painted Country French.  I chose one that is styled Country French (really); it's painted but to look like faux burled wood.  I was hoping for a light painted background with flowers or something on it.  But also I wanted doors that held long necklaces and this has them.  It's beautiful in the pictures so I hope I've done the right thing.  At least I can pay in 6 monthly installments interest-free.

It sounds gorgeous. And huge! Do you have pictures?

I bought this "vintage" necklace stand a few months ago, and it's working well so far, though I can see I might need something with more room.

I also like the idea of your having your jewelry behind closed doors, as it were. Love to see a picture of that armoire.

I'm sure you will love this, and be very happy you got it!  It will make a big difference to be able to clearly see all your jewelry.

I'd like to see a picture as well.  :)

PS - I have a floor mirror that conceals a jewelry cabinet.  I got it for Christmas a few years ago.

This is a great investment, Cougar. No more taking off your earrings and forgetting where you put them, or only finding one when you go searching. :)  All of your jewelry will be exactly where it belongs, all together in one place, and viewable as an entire collection. Good call!

Zp, that stand's a beauty.  I have a tree (looks like a tree!) that is beautiful but it's not tall enough for my necklaces, hence they're ending up in wads on my dresser.  But I'll of course keep it for the shorter ones because they're so fun to gaze at.

Lucy, I saw some of those mirrors and seriously considered them.  Yes, WHAT a great invention.  I have hardly any earrings (cysts in ear lobes) and wear very few bracelets (I feel like I bang them constantly; what does that say about my coordination???!!!).  Mostly I have very long necklaces hence the hunt.  But I REALLY like that mirror design.

Thanks, ladies, for making me feel a little saner about this purchase.  Let's see if the pictures don't come up too large on your screens.

Cougar - you will enjoy this so much.  The one I have is organized in a similar fashion, and it is so much easier to pick out what I want to wear.

Before I had one of these, all of my jewelry was still in the original store boxes, piled in a drawer.  I had taken to writing on the lids what was inside.  Very un-glamorous!  When DH and I married, an armoire was my first Christmas present from him.  I told him I didn't have enough to fill it up.  His answer: "You will."

I know, I didn't think of that when I bought it. So my stand sits on a box so the longer necklaces can hang free.

 :o  That's all I can say!

I don't have near that much jewelry. Not yet, anyway. I will inherit a great deal from my mother, but I have always been a minimalist with jewlery and tend to wear the same white gold/platinum pieces all the time. Mostly just earrings.

What a lovely, glamorous, girlie thing!  How elegant to have a fine piece of furniture to open when selecting the day's accessories.  I know you will get pleasure every time you use it.  And it that's not $$ well spent, what is?

There is nothing wrong with you. Not one single thing. Any fault lies with the fashion/cosmetic/marketing industry that has trained you with false proof to believe that you’re not perfect.

Oh, I have hardly anything at all but costume jewelry.  But I sure do have a mountain of long necklaces, now in a tangle.  I'm getting excited over this.  I hope it does arrive; so often furniture purchasing on the internet is a guess.

Really? That's scary.

I have had pretty good luck so far.
