The nice consignment store here said I had to bring everything dry cleaned and on hangers.  I don't have the time or money.

Dry-cleaned?  They don't want much, do they!?  Clean I can understand, but sheesh!

This is a common request where I live, even for Good Will and hospital thrifts.

I think you'd be proud of me!  I've put aside 15 pairs of pants/jeans and one pair of capris for the rummage sale.  And I set aside 4 pairs in the "maybe" pile.  My closet still looks full!  I started with the hardest (for me).

Way to go - it will only get easier now.  You'll see.  It's addictive, I swear!

We are proud of you Lucy.  You did the hardest part already.  It should get easier from now on.

There is nothing wrong with you. Not one single thing. Any fault lies with the fashion/cosmetic/marketing industry that has trained you with false proof to believe that you’re not perfect.

Woo-hoo!!!! Great start! And very smart to begin with the hardest-- as Poppy says, it should be easier from now on!

Okay - now you need to decide what category to do next.  No shirking allowed!

Lucy, are you holding your own rummage sale or doing it with someone?

Lucy, are you holding your own rummage sale or doing it with someone?

Fortunately my church has a rummage sale every 6 months!  It's unbelievable how much STUFF is donated to sell.  You'd think that after awhile, people would be cleaned out.  The sale is the first week of April, so I still have some time to get ready.
There is always one huge room of just women's clothing.

I work at it every time, so it feels like my own sale though.

Way to go, Lucy!! How freeing to let go of things that someone else will use and greatly appreciate.

I'm brutal in getting rid of clothing that I no longer use. Five year rule, with a few exceptions. I never even remember the things I've gotten rid of. I feel badly for the moment, especially if I'm donating something that still has original tags (bad purchase decision...), but then it's over.

Reading my own post, it seems that I've got a round of purging to do. Do it, Coug, and don't look back. A sleek closet that contains flattering items that you love -- awesome!

I don't do enough of it...

But another thing that's really makes a clean-out easier:  after I have everything that I'm going to donate, I invite friends to look over the stuff and see if there is anything that works for them.  Since I've said that it's all going to a charity shop, it's easy for them to take what they want (no pressure either way, to take or not take) and often they find things that work perfectly for them.  It's really fun when a friend finds something that they love and can wear successfully out of my discards.  And for some reason, it's often easier for me to give my really cherished stuff to a friend who loves it...I get to see it again when they wear it.
