My quest for a spring/ summer scent
« on: April 20, 2011, 10:48:30 AM »
I was given a bottle of 'Paris' YSL edt as a 'thank you' present and I hate to be so mean, but I really don't like it. Now I am in a difficult position-I either thank the person for their thoughtfulness or I just let them know that I am notoriously complicated when it comes to fragrances and it is not a good idea to give me scents? Of course the only option is to thank them gracefully... and give the bottle to a charity shop. I need a scent for spring. It may sound silly to use the word 'need', I know... but I am someone who loves the feel of a fragrance around my person; I can go without makeup- but I love the comfort of a nice scent. The trouble is.... I love my Mitsouko in Winter but, when it is hot I can't wear it.
I am hoping that the 'noses' of TTB will be able to help me.
I have compiled a list of scents that I like/dislike, perhaps you can find 'my' fragrance for Spring

Scents I like
wood (as in the inside of wooden cupboards and drawers)
eucaliptus (as when a breeze blows over an eucaliptus grove)
the stem of a freshly picked tomato
spices (cinammon and cardamon are my favourites)
orange blossom
sun dried linen sheets
lemon thyme

Scents I don't like
Lillies
anything fruity (as notes in a perfume) especially strawberries, apples, citrus.
very strong floral scents

grateful thanks

There's a third option:  swap the Paris.

It was a nice thought, but buying fragrance as a gift is extremely risky.

Have you tried the Jo Malones? They're pretty sheer and good for summer. I'm especially thinking of Orange Blossom or Sweet Lime & Cedar for you (it could be fun to layer the OB).

Milla, you might give CD's Escale de Pondichery a whiff.

Milla - Here is a thread from last year for springtime scents.  You might also want to read back through last year's thread about hot weather scents.

For early spring weather I am wearing my Chanel Eau Premiere.  It is lovely and not too heavy.  When we get hot weather, though, I will be switching to something even lighter.  Not sure what that will be yet!

Eau de Cartier here. Oh wait, I wear that year round. Sometimes I switch it up with the Concentree version of same. Very light. It's billed as unisex.

Back from our shopping trip. Tried the Eau de Cartier, it's lovely. I liked the Escale a Pondicherry, but my sister in law thought that the Escale aux Marquises smelt even better on me. And, although I am not into fruity fragrances, I quite liked Lanvin's 'Jeanne', it is not too sweet ...  I am inclined to buy the Eau de Cartier but I still want to try your other suggestions.

I bought the 'Eau de Cartier' and I love it but yesterday I popped into the Occitane shop because I had a couple of vouchers and I got the Pivoine (peony) edp. I normally don't like florals a lot but this is classed as a 'green floral', it smells really fresh and clean, which is  what I love in the Summer.

What a pity you cannot post scent swatches here! I´d love to smell those two, haven´t tried them.

OT - I´d like to buy a bottle of At The Beach 1966 but no-one seems to sell it even on Ebay. I wonder if I should mail CB store and ask them if they´d consider shipping a bottle to me? (I´ve bought smaller vials at the Perfumed Court but they are much more expensive that way.)
  • Complexion: NC 15 winter, NC 20 summer. Still oily.
  • Eyes: Blue
  • Hair: *Very* fine + wavy. Middle / dark blonde (my natural hair color) with some highlights.
