Heh, hubby always watches it, I try to avoid it...but, usually end up seeing at least some of it.

It ended 1.20 AM over here, by which time I´d already tried to sleep for a couple of hours. (Couldn´t, because I heard the Eurovision song contest all the time!)

I don´t get it, is there a factory somewhere that manufactures special Eurovision songs? They are a special sort of music, not found anywhere else.
  • Complexion: NC 15 winter, NC 20 summer. Still oily.

The Eurovision Song Contest (French: Concours Eurovision de la Chanson)[1] is an annual competition held among active member countries of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).
Each member country submits a song to be performed on live television and then casts votes for the other countries' songs to determine the most popular song in the competition.
(WIKIPEDIA)

A completely kitch, silly, OTT, Euro-trash  event; the songs, like Anne said, are in a genre of their own (music has got very little to do with it).
The voting is also quite peculiar… countries vote for their neighbours,e.g you can bet your life that all Scandinavian countries will vote for each other and that Portugal will give the largest number of votes to Spain. Sometimes, they even vote for their past enemies (Croatia and Serbia), which is nice. Sometimes, countries are ‘sent to Coventry’ (i.e. ignored), for some obscure, petty  reason…
This competition has seldom produced any memorable hits in Europe(exceptions are ABBA’s ‘Waterloo’ and Cliff Richards’ ‘ Congratulations’).

It used to be very tame, now everyone tries to outdo each other in the madness, ostentatious stakes.
The winning song is either the one with the  maddest singer / special effects of all, or something with a tune that once heard, will play in your head forever and send you insane.
In fact it is so bad it is funny.
My son, his girlfriend and my daughter ordered take away pizzas and parked themselves in from of the telly, hooting with laughter.
….and the winner was… TA-DA…..
AZERBEIJAN!!!!! they will host the competition next year and spend a lot of money!!

Thank you - I had no idea!  Now I think that your explanation was probably more entertaining than the songs!

It is totally kitch, you are so right there, Milla!

And still...horror..I think some people are very serious about it!

The Finnish TV has shown re-runs about our Eurovision semi-finals from the 70´s, it is such fun! Yes, I have watched every single episode!

How can you ignore a competition that produced such unforgettable lyrics as ' Boom Bang-a Bang Boom' (Lulu, UK) and LALALALALALALALALALALA  (Maciel, Spain),  someone with a suit like a chicken (Spain again) and a couple called IBI and Esther Ofarin warbling 'You're the laydee, you're the laydee that I lurve... You're the laydee, the laydee, laydeeee'

Oh, dear! :P  I feel slightly ill now.

Did you happen to catch the Unknown Comedian?  He did his act with a paper bag on his head.  Obviously I saw too many episodes of this.  It was a train wreck that you could not look away from.
