I think I have missed out on something big because I saw the headlines but, honestly, I don't think I've ever heard of this person. Can someone briefly fill me in?

Where to start?  Let's see...multiple award-winning children's author and illustrator.  First known for illustrating the Little Bear books, but more famous after his own Where the Wild Things Are.  Fanged, grotesque monsters abound in his stories.  In the Night Kitchen ( my DS's fave) has a naked boy romping throughout, leading to much censorship.  Early member of board for Children's Television Workshop.  Really Rosie TV production and album with Carole King.  Set design for operas and ballets.

Thank you! I did totally miss all that this amazing person accomplished. What a loss.

I thought everyone would have read his books to their children, but I guess I was wrong, huh?

I've seen some of his books but never picked one up.  DS wasn't interested in them but we looked at the covers. That is a tragic loss.
