Besides first meeting Joy by Jean Patou (my all-time numero uno favorite) because my cousin had it, I had Bluegrass by Elizabeth Arden (because "all our mothers" used it so it was alright for the daughters); Muguet de Bois was another "appropriate" fragrance for the daughters.  But as a teen, both I and my mother had this absolute THING about Coty's Elan and went through gallons of it until they quit making it.

Asking this question made me hunt through tons of internet info, trying to think of it (Elan).  Now that I've refound it, I just may have to hunt down some bottles for me and to surprise my mother.

I would go from one extreme to another in fragrances. (Actually, not a bad description of my adolescence.) I wore innocent and fresh scents like Love's Baby Soft, Devon Violets, English Lavendar or I would wear Joy or Shalimar or Youth Dew: strong spicy scents.
