Big Green Egg Turkey 19.68 lb
« on: November 24, 2012, 11:33:59 PM »
I'm still hankering for a Big Green Egg.  This is one my sister gave to her DH.  They did the turkey in it and it came out beautifully browned and moist.

That looks delicious!  Does it have a smoky flavor?  If so, I'm sold!

Excuse my total ignorance, but do you have turkey at Christmas (I am sure I have asked this before...) :-[

The Big Green Egg is one version of a kamado.  "A kamado is a traditional Japanese wood or charcoal fired earthen vessel used as a stove or oven. Modern versions of the cooker are produced and sold internationally. They are often marketed as barbecues for outdoor use."

You can grill, bake, smoke, etc. in it and you have to learn how to use it.

This turkey was baked/smoked (they added a little pecan wood to the fire).  It uses *very* little fuel.  The ceramic heats up and keeps it very well.

We usually have something else for Christmas, often fish.

I googled kamado, they look really impressive! I bet that turkey was flavoursome, I can smell the wood smoke here in London :)

This sounds like a useful item to have during power outages!
